A must have tripod accessory!

A huge part of the landscape photography I shoot sees me spending early mornings and late evenings dodging waves on the coast.

My dream shots normally involve beautiful patterns created in receding waves or flat calm, smooth seas around a subject out in the water. Both of which normally bring their own challenges in the unpredictability of the waves on their approach. Some of the time drastically mistiming them and being left walking back to the car with wet boots and soaking gear!

One of the biggest things I find that frustrates me about this process is the grinding and sticking of the legs and locking mechanisms on my tripod. Whether it be the salt water eating away at the screws on the legs or the joints being clogged up with sand and grit from the surrounding waves. Ive spent many a night sat taking apart the tripod and cleaning out the debris left from a morning trip.

It wasn’t until I received the tripod leg covers from Kase that I realised how much a simple concept like this would completely change the way I approach these coastal shoots. I have been using Kase Filters Wolverine Magnetic filters for a while now and the concept of the filters has really changed the speed and ease at which I work when working quickly to catch that morning sunrise. So when I saw these tripod covers I was very intrigued as to see how they would work.

The box includes a set of tripod leg covers that are made from tough, waterproof plastic and a carry bag to keep them in, particularly great to use when they may be wet after use. They all have cord draw strings at the camera end of the sleeve to ensure a secure fit and keep that sand and water from getting into the cover. I used them on my Benro Mach 3 tripod and I found the fit to be brilliant. I was left feeling very confident that they would withstand any approaching waves and keep any debris out.

I found myself no longer trying to dodge approaching waves to avoid either my gear or my feet getting wet, but embracing them and thus in turn capturing the exact style of wave movement around my camera that I so often search for. The joy of being able to remove the covers at the end of a shoot and have a completely clean, sand free tripod, makes the whole experience of shooting all the more enjoyable. After shaking off the covers and rolling them back up into the carrying bag included, the size meaning they fit back into my camera bag for a walk back to the car.

Long gone are the days of grinding tripod legs and sticking lock mechanisms!!
